Additional Info About Our Church

Fresh Ponds Chapel was built in 1840, originally as the Methodist Episcopal Church at Fresh Ponds. In 1853 it became a part of the Methodist Protestant denomination (Methodism without bishops) and was known as the Ebenezer Meeting House (meaning "Hitherto has the Lord helped us" from First Samuel 7:12). In August 1887 it became an "undenominational" church and was knwon as Fresh Ponds Chapel and Sunday School Association, which merged in June 1963 with the Gospel Mission Corps, which for many years was a part of the American Rescue Workers, an 1884 offshoot from The Salvation Army. The Gospel Mission Corps which includes Fresh Ponds Chapel holds organizational membership in the National Association of Evangelicals, the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, the Christian Holiness Partnership, and has "affiliate church" status with the Penn-Jersey District of The Wesleyan Church. Adjacent to the Chapel are both the Fresh Ponds Schoolhouse--Community Hall and Fresh Ponds Cemetery. The church and the cemetery are governed by their Boards of Trustees. Postal mail: P.O. Box 361, Dayton, NJ 08810-0361
