Additional Info About Our Church

The Cool Spring Baptist Church was organized on April 16, 1844, with fifty-four white members and eighty-five African American members. Rev. J. W. D. Creath was chosen as Pastor on July 6, 1844 and served until Sept 5, 1846. Thomas White Sydnor, D. D. was selected to serve as Pastor until dissolution of the Cool Spring Baptist Church. In the middle of the 1860's, the white congregation decided to purchase land and build a new church, now located on South Main Street in Blackstone, Virginia currently Blackstone Baptist Church. About the same time, the white members sold their interest in the church building to the African American members and it was renamed Spring Hill Baptist Church.

A church site in Blackstone, Virginia was chosen which is the present location of Spring Hill Baptist Church and ground breaking took place on Sunday, July 1, 1945. On Sunday May 26, 1946, the first worship service was held in the new building.

Vision:

Our vision is to see God mature us into a local community of worshiping believers committed to serving those within the community of believers and seeking those outside the community of believers, both locally and globally, with God's words, compassion, courage and creativity.
