The Mission began as the vision of nine international students at Wichita State University (WSU). In January of 2004 these students began meeting for prayer and Bible study. As they grew closer they realized that God wanted them to begin to reach out to all of the international student at WSU by starting a church. Through their pastor and friends at Southwind Fellowship Church they met with pastors in the area to find help in leadership and teaching. In the fall of 2004 The Mission began meeting on Saturday afternoons in the dorms at Fairmount Towers. Over the course of the following year, the group grew to 20-30 students. Each Saturday The Mission met for worship, prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Most of the group were Asians from Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. Over time it became clear that the time was approaching to transition The Mission's weekly service to Sundays and to establish themselves as a church. On October 2, 2005 The Mission began meeting in Lindquist Hall on the WSU campus on Sunday afternoons. On that Sunday around 30 people were in attendance. Since then, The Mission's Sunday service has grown into a gathering of 60-80 people from dozens of countries and four continents. As a result of the lives of those students who have been a part of The Mission, many students have responded to Jesus and have given their lives to following him, and dozens more have grown in their faith.
