Additional Info About Our Church
Christmas Eve 1998 marked the 200th year the people of St. John's, Tuckahoe have worshipped in our beautiful church building in the Colonial Heights section of northeastern Yonkers, NY. But St. John's congregation dates even farther back, to 1798 when a priest would ride from St. John's Getty Square on horseback to conduct Sunday services in the homes of local farmers.
Today, St. John's is a Christ-centered community of people from diverse backgrounds and of all ages. We come together weekly to worship God. We learn about our faith and Christian heritage through Sunday School and Christian Education. We volunteer time and talent in the service our Lord and of others.
Only a few blocks from the bustle of busy Central Avenue, St. John's can be described as a "country" church, full of warm, friendly folks. We celebrate Eucharist (Communion) Sundays at 10 AM (9 AM in the summer) and observe church feast days as announced.
Music plays an important part in our worship. Led by a paid organist/director, our choir sings weekly except during the summer when they enjoy a well-deserved rest.
