St. Nicholas Orthodox Church is the oldest Orthodox church in Alabama. It was established by a community of coal workers in 1894, and has been active ever since. Father Paul Davis and his wife Matushka Brigid have served this parish for decades along with the faithful descendants of the families which established it. Father Paul has been Rector of St Nicholas since shortly after his ordination in 2013.
Orthodox Christians are the defenders of Christian biblical teaching and have unwaveringly maintained the teachings of Christ against heresies and secular trends for as long as the church has existed. Orthodox Christianity has held true to the teachings of Jesus Christ, paying for the defense of the faith with the blood of Christian martyrs throughout history.
